Today is the one year anniversary of my valve replacement surgery. I’m pleased to report that I’m completely recovered and doing great. I do 40 minutes on the treadmill every morning and have lost over 30 pounds from that exercise. I want to sincerely thank all of you who prayed for me before, during, and after my surgery. It meant more than you could ever imagine. Thank you. Looking forward to seeing all of you at our next reunion! Can’t come soon enough for me.

I have been remiss in not posting an update for all of you who have been thinking about me and praying for me. Things got so hectic with appointments with a slew of home health people coming to the house (OT, PT, nurse), plus going back to the doctor for followup, that I was in overload. Two of our children were here (one at a time), plus our son-in-law and little 4 1/2 year old grandson. They all made the whole experience so much easier to go through. (I'm sure those of you with children can relate). I'm doing very well in healing from the actual surgery, and my surgeon is very pleased. I'm in cardiac rehab three days a week & that is going well. My only complaint is that I haven't been able to get my strength back for walking any distance at all. Before all this started last year, walking a lot, for example, on vacation sightseeing, was not an issue for me at all. I'm really praying that I'll get my strength back in this area too. All in all though, I'm doing very well. Thanks to all of you for keeping up with me. I do apologize for not posting an update along the way. I'll be sure to update as I get my strength back.

Good news from the heart cathererization! No blockages whatsoever & no pulmonary hypertension (which previous tests had seemed to indicate was there). So the entire problem is the severe valve leak, and that is completely fixable! Thanks so very much for all the well wishes and prayers. I will update after June 14 when I am up to it. In the meantime, let me just say how very supported I feel by all of you. Thank you so much.
Pamela, I am so sorry to read about your health problem. I remember you fondly as James' little league coach and how much fun it was to play bridge in Chicago all those years after Mrs. Ellwood taught us. Good luck. Bill

I'm thinking I should post a note asking for thoughts and prayers for a health situation I am facing. It was so very good seeing so many of you in Sept & realizing how deeply our classmembers care about one another.
I have been having trouble with getting out of breath easily for almost a year, and in Nov it got much worse. The Cliff Notes version of what's going on is that my aortic valve is leaking and must be replaced. That involves open heart surgery, which is a little scary. I have a heart catherization scheduled next Weds (May 24) to see if there are any issues besides the leaky valve to be fixed while they have my heart open. The surgery is currently scheduled for June 14, unless something changes, which is unlikely. I will be at Nebraska Medical Center, which is the best place in the region, and I feel very confident in my surgeon and everyone I've seen there in the many appointments I've had so far. I'll let you know how it goes, but like I said, all thoughts and prayers will be appreciated.
